Works independently or with minimal supervision 90 % of the time.

Job Summary:
The Extrusion Line Operator has direct responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of vacuum corrugation extrusion lines and auxiliary equipment so as to maximize the output of salable high density polyethylene corrugated pipe in various sizes and lengths which meets company standards. The Operator must possess mechanical inclination strong enough to understand the correct purpose, function, operation, and adjustment to all of the various components of the extrusion line. The Operator works cooperatively with the Shift Supervisor and Plant Manager to carry out planned production schedules and planned downtime for repairs and maintenance. The operator must be capable of assuming supervisory responsibility in the shift supervisor’s absence.

Responsibilities

Duties:

  • Safe, efficient operation of extrusion lines to produce high density polyethylene single wall and dual wall pipe.
  • Monitor and make corrections for variances in production processes including line speed, temperature, vacuum, cooling, perforating, and product imperfections.
  • Prompt, timely, effective communication to Operator and Supervisor regarding problems with product quality and operational efficiency.
  • Prompt reporting potential and actual equipment failures
  • Assist with equipment set up, maintenance, and scheduled job changes
  • Oversee “downstream” activities: perforating, coiling/packaging, and grinding.
  • Identify and troubleshoot potential and actual equipment malfunctions
  • React quickly and effectively to resolve problems
  • Maintain a neat, clean work area

Occasional Duties:

  • Must be able to assume supervisory role in the Shift Supervisor’s absence.
  • Assist with new employee training process

Requirements/Qualifications

Skills/Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Technical degree in manufacturing or mechanical-related field preferred
  • Successful work experience in closely-related manufacturing process
  • Understanding of characteristics of raw material mixes
  • Ability to safely operate fork truck
  • Able to communicate with all levels of management
